Book Review: Finally This by Kathleen Byron Etzel
Finally This is a poetry collection that tells a story of love, grief, growth, and change. Told in three parts, the author reflects on different stages of life and experience. I won’t say there is a distinct plot to follow, but there is an emotional journey with a vague, linear story beneath…

Book Review: The Light of Liberation by Indrajit Garai
It’s always a treat getting to read new work from Indrajit Garai. The Light of Liberation is part memoir and part a work of philosophy. I’ve enjoyed his fiction very much, but I enjoyed this venture into nonfiction even more…

Book Review: The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez
It was interesting experiencing Abby Jimenez’s earlier work after reading her more recent books. Even though a lot didn’t sit well with me in this story, it’s nice to see that there’s a quality in her writing that has remained the same even as she’s grown as an author…

Book Review: The House of Promise by Indrajit Garai
I’ve read a number of Indrajit Garai’s books by now and all of them have impressed me. The House of Promise, however, I found to be exceptional. Given the time gaps between each of the books I’ve read, I’m struggling to pinpoint exactly what the difference is, but it’s there, and I’m all for it…

Book Review: The Last Green Valley by Mark Sullivan
Yet again, I procrastinated reading a book that I’ve been actively wanting to read for several years. In this case, I’m going to use the excuse that I was letting this age like wine on my bookshelf. I enjoyed Mark Sullivan’s Beneath A Scarlet Sky so much that I think I was a little nervous that another…

Book Review: Til Morning by Bonnie Hearn Hill & Larry Hill
I’m a big fan of Dorothy Kilgallen and have read extensively about her life and her career. I’m so thrilled that there are a couple of novels inspired by her. This one focuses on her affair with singer Johnnie Ray. Though not a shining or defining aspect of her life, it’s not surprising that writers…

Book Review: In a Far-Off Land by Stephanie Landsem
Between the author and the synopsis of this book, I was super excited when I came across this book. The Old Hollywood feel jumps off the page early on in the book, granted, it highlights the darker side of show business…
