Review:
Growing up, Good Eats was my favorite Food Network show. I remembered enjoying Alton Brown’s approach to teaching about food and food science (to this day, I cannot pick up a bag of sliced bread without thinking about him squishing the bag to show how much air is in there).
In this collection of essays, Alton Brown shares anecdotes of his life and career. Of course, there’s a lot of food talk as well. Both reflective and educational, it’s a good balance.
I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by Alton Brown himself. I would say this is definitely the best way to experience the book. It was an easy and fun listen. I definitely think it’s time for me to rewatch Good Eats!
Likes & Dislikes:
What I liked:
- Witty and personable.
- Fantastic audiobook narration.
What I didn’t like:
- No cohesion at all. Being essays, it was partly expected, but it was jarring to keep swiftly changing gears.
Afterthoughts:
I don’t know how this book slipped under my radar. I likely would have picked it up sooner!
