Review:
I accidentally read this series out of order, beginning with Just for the Summer. Although the books can be read as standalones, I realized while reading Part of Your World that I was definitely missing some nuance and backstory/context. That said, I’m also glad I read Just for the Summer first, because if I had begun in order, I wouldn’t have completed the series, and I can’t imagine not having read Just for the Summer, as it was one of my favorite reads of 2024.
Alexis comes from a dysfunctional, well-off family. Daniel comes from a tight-knit small town. Their differences cause some tension, particularly for Alexis, given her difficult family situation. Social gaps, age gaps, lifestyle gaps… there’s a lot working against their relationship, but these struggles also bring them together.
The writing in this book felt wildly different than Just for the Summer. This, along with not being able to relate to either of the main characters, made me struggle with it. And while I felt like the role reversal from the usual interpretation of the main tropes was unique (for me as a sporadic romance reader), it wasn’t for me.
Likes & Dislikes:
What I liked:
- I liked getting to see characters I thought I was meeting for the first time in Just for the Summer.
What I didn’t like:
- The age gap wasn’t for me.
- I personally didn’t relate to either of the characters.
- The writing felt unpolished.
Afterthoughts:
I will probably still read Yours Truly because I’ve had more wins than misses with this author. I don’t know what to expect.
