Review:

(This review contains spoilers from the first two books in the series as well as the novella.)

As Molly and Juan’s wedding day approaches, the Regency Grand is abuzz with camera crews filming an episode of Hidden Treasures. Molly brings a small box of Gran’s items to be appraised, not anticipating much from it. The next thing she knows, she’s being told that she’s a multi-millionaire. But Molly is less concerned with the money and more curious as to how Gran acquired such an expensive piece… a piece that eventually goes missing.

The book goes back and forth from Molly’s present-day point of view and Gran’s final diary entries, explaining to Molly that the stories she once told her were laced with truth. The ‘key to her heart’ gives Molly answers about Gran’s past and also what she’s dealing with in the present.

Though important to the story, I did struggle through Gran’s portion of the book. It strayed too much from the characters I wanted to read about. Perhaps if I were bingeing the series in one go, I wouldn’t have had this issue, but I’ve been reading as the books have been released. Molly’s portion of the story was charming as always, and I’ve loved seeing her grow as a character.

Honestly, I’m pretty sad that this is the final installment in the Molly the Maid series! Even though I’ve had a bit of a love/hate relationship since the beginning, I’ve grown attached to the characters. I look forward to whatever Nita Prose goes on to write next.

Thanks to Random House/Ballantine and NetGalley for providing me with a free digital ARC!

Likes & Dislikes:

What I liked:

  • I’ve liked Molly’s character more with each book.
  • It was a satisfying resolution to the series.

What I didn’t like:

  • I felt like Gran’s portion of the story took a lot of attention away from Molly. It left me wondering if this was a lead in to a new series with Gran?

Afterthoughts:

I’ve somehow managed to start every book in this series (aside from the novella) in a hotel, which I find amusing because it wasn’t intentional. Quite fitting!
